technology convergence

TANGO project embraced a Technology Convergence approach to make synthetic chemistry more efficient, developing sustainable synthetic protocols aligned with the 12 Green Chemistry Principles, in a circular economy perspective, and applied this concept to CO2 utilization.

Studying the catalytic transformation of epoxides into carbonates as a valuable reaction, TANGO will develop an innovative approach to CO2 utilization, exploiting the aerosol technology combined with nanotechnology, catalysis, magnetism and flow chemistry technologies.

Synthetic chemistry is a matter of methodologies and processes, considering also thermodynamic and kinetic effects. It deals with the transformation of matter, producing new molecules … but also wastes. Efficiency in synthetic chemistry considers time, mass and energy parameters. But also safety and operations should be taken into account when new synthetic approaches are being designed.

In a single concept, sustainability criteria are on the need to make chemistry, not only a fascinating science, but also an acceptable human activity by our society.

Technology can help chemists in this endeavour and, even better, integrated technologies can synergistically co-operate in making chemists’ efforts more efficient, more sustainable, and finally acceptable to ensure the wealth of our society, also minimizing security risks.
