Inspired by Green Chemistry Design Principles, the objective of this project is to tackle CO2 exploitation efficiency, productivity and sustainability challenges, introducing and validating an innovative continuous flow approach based on aerosol reactions and recyclable catalysts immobilized on magnetic nano-supports. To this end, the convergence of various technologies will be implemented and tested on a valuable model reaction.

In details, a model reaction will be investigated by means of innovative semi-heterogeneous catalysts suitably prepared by immobilizing privileged catalytic units  onto the outer surface of magnetic nanoparticles. The best performing heterogeneous nanocatalysts resulting from propaedeutic batch studies will be operated in plug-flow reactors and aerosol reactors  to overcome mass transfer limitation related to CO2 conversion, thus providing a novel process window to maximizing process intensification through continuous reactor operation and catalyst recovery by application of external magnetic fields.

Overall, catalysis, nanotechnology, magnetism, flow chemistry, and aerosol chemistry will be integrated generating a synergistic apron to CO2 utilization.
